The mission is geared towards reinstating accessibility along the critical highway, acting as an essential link for residents and defense workers active in the area.
The continuous operation is taking place under severe weather conditions, where groups of trained professionals and large equipment have been dispatched to remove substantial snow deposits across critical sections of the highway. The crucial National Highway-03, linking Manali to Leh, plays an essential role in transportation and supply chains, particularly for military units positioned in the elevated regions of Ladakh.
Because of heavy winter snowfall, the highway has remained closed for multiple months, requiring significant work to be done before the summer so as to reinstate connections.
The snow clearance crews from 111 RCC/753 BRTF are operating tirelessly under freezing conditions, addressing snowdrifts measuring anywhere from 10 to 15 feet across various points along the path. This task becomes exceptionally demanding around the High Altitude Tanglang La Pass (17,500 ft), an area known for heavy snowfalls and common avalanches. Nonetheless, the dedicated teams persist with their duties, guaranteeing a safe and efficient clearing process of the roadway. (ANI)
