CIO Seeks War Veterans' Leader as Protests Loom

Bulawayo, March 19 (Pawonation.com Live) — The Presidential Office has put war veteran leader Andreas Ethan Mathibela under observation and asked immigration authorities at Plumtree, Maitengwe, and Mphoengs border crossings to prevent him from exiting the nation.

Mathibela, the chairperson of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association, is among the organizers of the mass demonstrations set for Thursday aimed at expressing public dissatisfaction with the high levels of corruption within President Emmerson Mnangagwa's administration.

However, the police have refused to approve the protests.

On March 19, 2023, a letter was sent to the regional immigration officer from the officer-in-charge at the Central Intelligence Organisation’s President's Department in Plumtree. The correspondence categorized Mathibela as an individual with “security interests,” implying that he poses a potential risk to national security.

"If they appear at Plumtree, Maitengwe, or Mphoengs Border Posts, kindly have your office refuse his departure and notify the President's Department," the letter stated.

Mathibela stands amongst a select group of courageous war veterans who have publicly criticized Mnangagwa’s approach to leadership and pledged to prevent any attempts to prolong the term of the ZANU PF leader past 2028.

A month ago, Blessed Runesu Geza, who is also recognized as Bombshell, went into hiding following a sequence of press conferences where she called for Mnangagwa’s resignation. This critic of Mnangagwa had been vocal in her appeals prior to going underground.

On Tuesday evening, Geza issued yet another forceful declaration, granting Mnangagwa until March 31 to step down from his position or else confront "an imminent revolt."
