Explosions Rock Tuapse as Drone Attack Ignites Refinery Fire

Explosions rocked the Krasnodar region in Russia close to the city of Tuapse during the night of March 14, with indications pointing towards an expected air assault. According to Russian news sources and regional social platforms, accounts surfaced about attacks hitting a nearby oil refinery which resulted in a blaze.

Video footage of the blaze at the oil refinery in Tuapse has been circulated on social media, purportedly resulting from an assault involving unmanned aerial vehicles.

At the same time, local authorities have not yet commented on the nighttime strikes in the region.

The Telegram channel Mash reported an attack on the Tuapse Oil Refinery. As per the Russian source, a blaze erupted at the facility following the crash of a drone, leaving debris behind.

Moreover, reports surfaced regarding a brief limitation placed on Sochi Airport’s operations, where they enacted the Carpet plan following intelligence about potential drone attacks. This strategy includes both canceling and rescheduling flights at the facility.

As reported by local residents, they heard multiple drones in action around 3 a.m., followed by approximately seven blasts. The town’s anti-aircraft defenses are up and running,” reads Mash’s posting.

Explosions in Tuapse

The explosions in Tuapse are not unprecedented events. For instance, on July 22, there was an incident where Ukraine’s Defense Forces carried out an attack on a nearby oil refinery during an operation, which led to a significant fire.

A source from RBC-Ukraine within the intelligence community had earlier stated that personnel from Ukraine’s military intelligence conducted a drone attack on the Tuapse oil refinery.
