Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the spouse of the governor of Lagos State, has reiterated her dedication to empowering citizens with the fiscal understanding needed for enduring economic progress.
She stated that "real empowerment extends further than just providing access to opportunities; it also entails showing people the correct path to succeed."
At the 2025 Financial Literacy Awareness Program, which took place at the First Lady’s Banquet Hall located in Lagos House, Ikeja, she addressed attendees on Tuesday.
Speaking to those who benefited from the program, Ibijoke highlighted how financial literacy can drive enduring wealth creation.
“She noted that providing someone with a fish feeds them for a day, but teaching them how to fish ensures they have food for life,” emphasizing the significance of empowering people with financial knowledge instead of offering one-time assistance.”
The gathering that convened delegates from First City Monument Bank, Providus Bank, the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, and Investment, as well as the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, offered actionable approaches for managing finances effectively, making wise investment choices, and ensuring long-term business viability.
Mrs. Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the program wasn't solely focused on providing empowerment tools; it also aimed to ensure recipients gained the necessary skills to "fully utilize these resources."
"Simply providing tools is insufficient; imparting financial literacy to beneficiaries is far more crucial," she emphasized.
She commented on the wider effects of financial literacy, stating, "Boosting financial understanding enables people to make informed plans for their futures—be it launching their own ventures, funding their kids' schooling, or setting aside resources for unforeseen events."
She motivated those who benefited to use the knowledge gained, interact with specialists, and seize command of their monetary destiny.
