In a panel discussion titled "Deepwater Dangers: Safeguarding Commerce," Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi along with Australia’s Chief of Joint Operations Vice Admiral Justin Jones stressed the importance of adhering to international maritime regulations and shifting towards more environmentally friendly technologies.
Vice Admiral Jones emphasized Australia’s commitment to following the legal guidelines for naval activities, encompassing both international standards and local rules concerning fuel consumption. He stated, “Several legal documents along with international and Australian national laws permit defense organizations, specifically navies when discussing vessels such as warships, to apply for exemptions from certain obligations. However, this is not practiced in Australia; instead, we adhere strictly to international norms regarding fuel usage,” he explained.
Admiral Tripathi supported this view, emphasizing that the Indian Navy Is just as dedicated to adhering to international benchmarks.
