Karnataka Assembly Rejects Waqf Amendment Bill; BJP Accuses of Political Favoritism

Bengaluru (Karnataka), India, March 20 (ANI): The Karnataka Assembly adopted a resolution against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, prompting strong condemnation from the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP alleged that the state government was practicing “vote bank politics.”

R. Ashoka, the Leader of Opposition, strongly opposed the resolution, claiming that the state government was backing Muslims solely for electoral gains.

Ashok mentioned that we spent two full days discussing Waqf matters since all our temples and lands owned by farmers were seized by the Waqf Board. Numerous government schools established over the past 60-70 years have similarly been labeled as Waqf properties. He believes this support from the Karnataka government towards Muslims stems from electoral considerations.

BJP legislator Dr. C.N. Ashwath Narayan likewise denounced the action, affirming that the Congress -the led administration was focusing more on political advantages than on openness and responsibility.

"We completely denounce the method and the decision made by the Congress The government in Karnataka has brought this issue to the floor of the House. This is merely an attempt at vote-buying through politics. They have no interest in being clear or held accountable. They do not wish to provide answers or transparency. Instead, they aim to exploit and misappropriate the extra authority granted to the Waqf Board... Their opposition stems from political motives," stated Ashwath Narayan during his conversation with ANI.

The Karnataka Assembly On Wednesday, they passed a resolution opposing the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. The motion was introduced by the state’s Law Minister, H. K. Patil.
