Kiharu Residents Stunned as Government Officials Snub MP Nyoro's Event

Residents of Kiharu have voiced their dissatisfaction with government officials for not attending an event aimed at handing over an administrative building intended for local authorities.

The single-story structure built by Kiharu NGCDF in the Mjini region close to Murang'a town will house the offices of the Mjini Assistant Chief, Mukuyu Chief, Kiharu Assistant County Commissioner, as well as the divisional lands registry.

However, neither the involved officers nor their delegates attended the event, with the exception of a representative from the social services administration.

The MP made this statement a day later, following his public address regarding his removal from the role of chairman of the National Assembly's budget committee, expressing confusion about the reasons behind his replacement.

A local resident named Ali Ali voiced his dissatisfaction, questioning why the government representatives failed to appear.

"It's disheartening that even those who should have been involved didn't show up," he remarked.

"Why has politics become so intertwined with this development project? Why can’t these issues be addressed separately? We, as residents, feel quite let down," Ali said additionally.

He supported the MP in continuing with the development initiatives within the constituency, stating that they would firmly stand by his side.

They are criticizing you because of your excellent performance. We are the individuals who chose you as our representative even without conducting any campaigns.

The member of parliament, who had been a close supporter of President William Ruto during his first term, secured re-election in 2022 without actively campaigning. This was because he was heavily involved in the president’s nationwide campaign efforts.

Sofia Ramadhan, who lives in the Mjini settlement, commended the Member of Parliament for advocating for the paving of roads, which significantly enhanced the appearance of the neighborhood.

“I am able to stroll about wearing flip-flops despite the heavy rain earlier today," she remarked.

On his end, Lawrence Mutuota voiced worry that the administration's move might be an indirect consequence of him being removed from his role as the head of the Budget Committee.

He mentioned that when voters choose their leaders, they do so with an expectation of fostering development, and he noted that the people from Kiharu are satisfied with Nyoro’s work.

"There are no problems with the administrators since we understand the choice came from above them. The decision originated at a more senior level. Our Member of Parliament faces targeting due to his efforts; however, they have seized back the position allocated to him initially, yet he shall keep the role assigned to him by us.”

He stated that the backing the Member of Parliament enjoys from the constituents is unrelated to their political stance, and they could secure re-election effortlessly as an independent candidate.

Even if they capture his protective staff, we will still safeguard him. Provided they leave the NGCDF untouched, Kiharu will keep progressing.

Area MCA Charles Karina stated that the people of Kiharu did not elect Nyiro to become the chairperson of the Budget Committee. However, the ruling party permitted him to occupy this role due to recognizing his intelligence.

He praised the Member of Parliament for refraining from responding to criticisms and accusations from leaders who allege he has unevenly distributed resources to his constituency during his time as the head of the Budget Committee.

Karina mentioned that Nyoro made his constituency accessible to fellow politicians who wanted to learn about the labor-intensive approach he used to implement projects, which helped reduce expenses by as much as 40 percent.

Many Members of Parliament have previously toured the constituency where all 112 public primary schools have undergone tiling and renovation. Additionally, students attending full-day secondary schooling receive a complimentary lunch, which includes chapattis each final Friday of the month, along with reduced tuition fees amounting to just Sh1,000 per semester.
