Lee Jae-myung, who leads South Korea’s primary opposition party, the Democratic Party, had his inaugural meeting with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong on Wednesday. Their discussion focused on potential strategies to assist young individuals seeking employment opportunities.
Lee stopped by the Seoul campus of Samsung Software Academy for Youth (SSAFY), where Chairman Lee welcomed him in the entrance hall. They subsequently had a brief, ten-minute discussion together.
“To ensure the nation’s prosperity, businesses need to flourish,” stated Lee Jae-myung. “Given the escalating global rivalry, it is essential to boost the worldwide competitive edge of major companies.” He further noted that asSamsung tackles its present difficulties, this process will contribute to building a robust industrial environment.

Lee Jae-yong mentioned that SSAFY has been implemented as part of the company's effort to "grow alongside society." He emphasized that this program represents an investment in South Korea’s future and its youth.
According to reports, their discussion touched upon several subjects such as providing employment assistance to young job hunters, cultivating expertise in semiconductors and AI, the dedicated semiconductor legislation, and suggested revisions to company laws.
Since 2018, Samsung Electronics has been running SSAFY to cultivate software skills among students. This program operates across multiple campuses located in Seoul, Daejeon, Gwangju, Gumi, and Busan, having educated approximately 9,700 participants up until last year, out of which roughly 5,000 have found employment. From this year onward, the program will broaden its scope to also accommodate individuals holding only high school degrees.
