Morocco Overtakes as Spain’s Top Fruit and Veg Importer, Second Only to the EU

Morocco has emerged as the second biggest provider of fruits and vegetables to Spain, showing a 4% increase and totaling 455,086 tons, reports Financial Food.

Morocco's presence in the Spanish market has significantly increased, providing a wide array of goods where peppers, tomatoes, and green beans stand out as particularly notable items.

Coming right after France, Morocco stands as the second-biggest exporter to the Iberian market, showing a 4% increase in 2024 with a volume of 455,806 tons.

At the forefront in terms of value is Morocco, which achieved revenues totaling 1 billion euros in 2024, marking a 16% growth from the previous year’s figures.

Vegetable shipments from Morocco to Spain amounted to 291,047 tons in 2024, representing an increase of 22% over the prior year, with these exports valued at 422 million euros—a rise of 15%. The country’s fruit exports came to 164,752 tons last year, down 18%, but still managed to generate revenues totaling 619 million euros—an improvement of 16%—which reflects a significant boost of 56% when measured against 2023 figures.

Green peppers, green beans, and tomatoes are the top imports from Morocco, accounting for 77% of vegetable imports and 49% of all fruit and vegetable imports, as reported by Spain’s Customs and Special Taxes Department.
