
WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — Residents across the DMV can expect to see heavy rain and winds Sunday evening as a storm that brought multiple tornadoes across the southeast moves through the area, according to forecasts.
On Sunday afternoon, the National Weather Service (NWS) released a "hazardous weather outlook" for regions alongside Interstate 95 (spanning central Maryland, northern Virginia, and Washington D.C.), as well as the part of the Chesapeake Bay located within Maryland and the tidal Potomac River area.
The alert is expected as predictions indicate significant rainfall, lightning, strong winds, and thunder throughout most of the region. There’s a possibility of isolated tornadoes is also possible.
Furthermore, a wind advisory has been put into effect for the D.C. region until 6 p.m., due to potential wind gusts reaching up to 50 mph.
A wind advisory was in effect in Virginia until 6 p.m. as well.
The National Weather Service warned that branches might fall from trees, potentially causing power disruptions. Motorists were advised to exercise increased caution since powerful gusts could complicate road conditions.
NWS recommended that residents secure any outdoor items.
