PHOTOS: Seven Notorious Boko Haram Terrorists Surrender in Borno — International Edition (English)

Seven prominent Boko Haram militants have handed themselves over to the soldiers of the Multinational Joint Task Force in Borno State.

On Wednesday, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the Chief Military Information Officer for the MNJTF, released a statement indicating that the operation was made possible with support from the Multinational Joint Task Force, which operates within Sector 3 Mongunu.

As per the declaration, the militants active in the Damasak area of the state have surrendered their weapons to pursue peace.

Part of the statement says, "As a major advancement in combating terrorism within the Lake Chad region, forces from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) serving under Sector 3 Mongunu have successfully encouraged the capitulation of seven alleged high-profile Boko Haram terrorists carrying substantial weapons caches. These individuals were reportedly operational around the Damasak area in Borno State, Nigeria."

He stated, "The alleged Boko Haram militants—identified as Mallam Baba Ibrahim (19), Malam Bamai Ali (20), Mallam Jundu Ali (19), Mallam Abba Ali (25), Mallam Abubakar Mohammed (20), Tijjani Ali (20 years old), and Mallam Ali Mommudu (25)—surrendered willingly to MNJTF forces in Walada village within Damasak following an ongoing military operation."

He mentioned that alleged terrorists admitted to participating in multiple terrorist acts throughout Northern Borno.

"They said they were worn out by the conflict, even though they had previously worried that surrendering would result in their death," he noted.

The significant arsenal and gear turned over by the alleged terrorists encompassed 2 RPG launchers, 4 rocket-propelled grenade warheads, one AK-47 assault rifle, a German-made HK 21 machine gun, along with 8 empty magazines. They also relinquished control of 2 horses, 30 rounds of specialized 7.62mm ammo, 715 standard 7.62mm cartridges, 51 NATO-compliant bullets, 12 cellphones, 6 compact solar panels, 2 bandoliers, and 4 knives, as well as several additional objects. These ex-insurgents are currently offering crucial information to the MNJTF.

Osira encouraged other militants to comply and hand over their weapons in return for peace.

"The MNJTF hopes to motivate other militants to seize this chance to surrender, as relinquishing their weapons is a vital move toward attaining enduring peace in the Lake Chad region," he stated.

He emphasized the MNJTF’s dedication to breaking up terrorist organizations and reinstating peace across the region.
