On Thursday, Party General Secretary To Lam welcomed U.S. Senator Steven David Daines during his visit to Hanoi, emphasizing again that the United States continues to be one of Vietnam’s most important allies.

He appreciated Washington's enhanced collaboration with Vietnam and backed its journey toward becoming a robust, autonomous, resilient, and thriving nation.

Looking back at the advancements in their relationship over the last three decades, the Party leader characterized the Vietnam-U.S. relation as an exemplar of global collaboration. They recognized the favorable developments attained following the upgrade of bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2023, which encompasses areas such as diplomacy, commerce and investments, education, cultural exchanges, and interactions between citizens.

He highlighted main focuses for advancing bilateral cooperation, stressing that maintaining strong economic, trade, and investment ties must be crucial alongside broadening partnerships in fields like scientific research, technological advancement, innovative solutions, energy sectors, medicine production, and agricultural development—areas wherein the U.S. excels and Vietnam sees increasing needs.

Expressing gratitude to the U.S. Congress and the heads of both the Republican and Democratic parties for their backing, he encouraged Daines to work towards fostering a more cohesive, sustainable, efficient, and meaningful collaboration.
