The Wisconsin Badgers will face off against the Montana Grizzlies in the No. 3 versus No. 14 match-up within the East Region, scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m. Central Time on TNT. The broadcast will feature Brad Nessler, Brendan Haywood, and Dana Jacobsen calling the action.
In the initial round of games held in Denver over the opening weekend, Wisconsin will take part. They are scheduled as the third match of the day on Thursday, following the contest between No. 8 Louisville and No. 9 Creighton which starts at 11:15 a.m. in Lexington and will air on CBS. Meanwhile, No. 4 Purdue faces off against No. 13 High Point in Providence, with this game set to broadcast on TruTV.
The Badgers will indeed start their game at 11:30 a.m. local time, but since Denver operates on Mountain Standard Time, this makes it an even earlier start, which only compounds the challenge for Wisconsin.
On Selection Sunday, the Badgers received a No. 3 seed, ranking them as the No. 12 overall seed following Texas Tech who got the No. 9 seed. Iowa State (No. 10), along with Kentucky (No. 11), are positioned on the three-point line.
Following the Denver match-up, they face a tight schedule having played four consecutive games within four days. They must quickly recuperate and prepare themselves before heading to Denver for a morning game on Thursday.
Head coach Greg Gard showed little enthusiasm for the Thursday draw, expressing his worries over teams in the championship facing such a rapid turnaround.
That’s a larger concern we've addressed with the conference," Gard stated regarding the Thursday game following the Selection Sunday broadcast. "The team playing on Sunday should aim for a Friday game instead. This did not occur, leading to a rapid turnaround.
Although the schedule didn't look promising for the Badgers, they appear to be well-positioned for their first-round game against Montana. This explains why they've started off as substantial 17.5-point favorites.
However, trends continue to work against Wisconsin despite their draw, as the tip-off timing remains an issue.
