
New Delhi [India], March 21 (ANI): The country's best boxing talent is all set to punch their way to glory as the draw for the 8th National Elite Women's Boxing Championships Kicking off at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida from March 21-27, this week-long event will showcase the thrilling competition between seasoned athletes and rising stars, as stated in a press release. A total of 188 boxers representing 24 state federations and organizations will compete across 10 different weight classes. Among them is World Champion and leading female boxer Nikhat Zareen, who serves as the president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). PT Usha Alongside numerous Olympic athletes, there will be attendees supporting the boxers.
Heading the forefront in their individual weight classes will be an Olympic athlete. Jaismine (57kg), World Champion Nitu Ghanghas competing in the 48 kg division, two-time world youth champion Sakshi weighing in at 54kg, ex-national champion Poonam Poonia who competes at 57kg, 2018 World Championships bronze medalist Simranjit Kaur from the 65kg class, previous World Champion Sonia Lather in the 60kg category, along with Anamika (51kg) and several others.
Heavierweight divisions will feature athletes like the Olympian. Pooja Rani , representing Haryana and Anupama, who won the silver medal at the Strandja Memorial, placed in the same half of the 80 kg weight category within the RSPB brackets.
The National Championships offer boxers the opportunity to display their talents on the largest platform. A strong showing here can lead to invitations for participation in international competitions, making this event a significant step in every boxer’s career progression.
Taking on these well-established stars will be individuals like Pema Bhutia Preeti from Sikkim, an officer in the All India Police force and a previous National medalist Kalaivani S from Tamil Nadu and elsewhere.
All 10 categories will commence their competitions on Friday, with a total of 44 matches planned across two sessions. (ANI)
