24 Ethiopians Removed Mid-Flight for Immigration Violations

On Monday, 24 Ethiopians who lacked proper documents were removed from a flight at Robert Mugabe International Airport. They have since been penalized and sent back to Ethiopia.

The 24 faced appearance before Harare Magistrate Ruth Moyo, who found them guilty of violating the Immigration Act.

Each of them was penalized $100.

The court was informed that they were traveling to Eswatini for a religious journey.

The prosecution headed by Mandirasa Chigumira demonstrated that on March 17, 2025, around 12:40 PM, the group reached Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport via an Ethiopian Airlines flight coming from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Each of them got off the plane and bypassed the immigration procedures. Without needing transit visas, they moved to the departure hall and awaited the arrival of Eswatini Airline flight RN401 bound for Manzini, Eswatini.

On the same day, approximately at 1900 hours, twenty-three individuals embarked on an Eswatini Airline flight bound for Manzini, Eswatini.

The immigration authorities later learned that several passengers had boarded an Eswatini Airlines flight without obtaining transit visas.

Immigration officials carried out a thorough inspection of the airplane and found that none of the accused possessed transit visas permitting them to be aboard the flight.

Their order to leave the vehicle resulted in the apprehension of the accused individuals since they violated the nation's immigration regulations.
