AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDG/WAGE) -- A nearby retirement community is commemorating resilience following Hurricane Helene.
The CSRA experienced one of its most lethal storms over half a year ago, and we're still in the process of recovery.
On Friday, Brandon Wilde marked the river region’s resilience in the face of our challenges.
"We ventured out today to address this issue as Hurricane Helene devastated this property along with the Augusta region. A huge tree fell onto this structure during the hurricane. Since then, the building hasn’t been accessible for residents due to damage sustained from the storm. Fortunately, we managed to get it reopened earlier this week. Therefore, we decided to hold a grand reopening event and celebrate joyfully with our residents," explained Sam Richardson, an operations specialist focusing on life care services.
Richardson states that Helene was responsible for around 200 fallen trees, which damaged cottages and structures.
He mentions that significant headway has been made in refurbishing the structures, however, the work isn’t complete as of now.
