Chinese Giant Sunrise Plans $614M Investment in Moroccan Textile Industry

On Thursday, March 20, 2025, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch oversaw the signing of an investment pact with China’s Sunrise Group—a world leader in textiles—in Rabat. The initiative seeks to boost Morocco’s textile industry and reinforce the nation’s standing as a leading force regionally.

A total investment of 2.3 billion dirhams will finance the establishment of two manufacturing facilities in Skhirat and Fez, resulting in approximately 7,000 immediate employment opportunities along with more than 1,500 secondary positions. This initiative aims to secure domestic supplies of materials such as yarns, textiles, and clothing items. By doing so, it seeks to decrease logistics expenses and reduce wait times, all while expanding market access for businesses based in Morocco.

During his address, the Head of Government commended the strong ties between Morocco and China, emphasizing how this accord will benefit job creation and enhance the industry’s competitive edge. He further mentioned productive discussions held between both sides, including their most recent encounter in September 2024 at Shanghai with the leader of the Sunrise Group.

The agreement was signed by Mr. Xu Lei, President of the Sunrise Group, along with various Moroccan ministers such as Mr. Abdelouafi Laftit, Mrs. Nadia Fettah Alaoui, Mr. Nizar Baraka, Mrs. Fatima-Zohra Lamrani Al Mannouni, Mr. Younes Sekkouri, Mr. Ryad Mezzour, Mr. Azzeddine El Midaoui, Ms. Leila Benali, Mr. Karim Ziane, and Mr. Fouzi Lakja, under the watchful eye of Mr. Ali Seddiki, who serves as the Director General of the AMDI.
