Local officials in Cluj County, central Romania, are considering raising funds for expanding the Avram Iancu International Airport in Cluj-Napoca via bonds listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB).
The airport will have an annual capacity of 20 million passengers per year, up from the current 1.5 million.
Alin TiÅŸe, the president of the Cluj County Council overseeing the airport, revealed during a press briefing on March 18th that he spoke with the airport director. The latter then conversed with the head of the Bucharest Stock Exchange regarding the matter at hand. Economedia reported.
He added that through this approach, the Cluj airport might draw between EUR 200-300 million for enhancing infrastructure and expanding capacity, including investments in civil engineering projects and extending the runway.
Alin TiÅŸe thinks this approach will prove successful, particularly because the Cluj County Council conducted a similar initiative the previous year to release county bonds via BVB, securing approximately RON 70 million from investors within just two or three days.
