From Garre to Modogashe: Kenya's Great Strides, Says Raila

Ex-Prime Minister Raila Odinga remains optimistic that Kenya is heading in the correct direction as it progresses towards the future.

At the Iftar dinner he organized in Upper Hill, Nairobi, Raila stated that Kenya's situation has changed significantly from what it was a few years back.

Nevertheless, he swiftly emphasized that numerous tasks remained uncompleted.

"Let’s stay unified. We are aware of the measures we’ve implemented, and we understand our destination. We all recognize where the nation should head," he asserted.

We may not yet be where we aspire to be, but the nation needs to progress. I am confident that we will reach our desired destination.

Raila additionally clarified that the nation's democracy is still developing, albeit gradually yet consistently.

"Kenya has progressed, yet democracy isn’t like instant coffee—it’s a process where we move two steps ahead and sometimes take one back, but overall, we continue to advance," he said.

He emphasized that significant work needs to be done to enhance the way elections are managed within the nation.

"We have not reached that point yet. Although we haven't held a free and fair election, we will eventually get there," he stated.

Raila urged Kenyans to make sacrifices in pursuit of a better nation.

"We all have to make sacrifices. We will reach our desired destination. It’s certain that we’ll get there, but we should avoid being self-centered. Kenya needs to progress collectively as one nation," he emphasized.

Raila also stated that every Kenyan should have access to obtain national identity cards.

"I've heard some individuals claim that President Ruto was incorrect in stating that every Kenyan should receive an ID. In my view, all Kenyans should obtain IDs without facing any discrimination," he declared.

He remembered that the people living in Kibera, within Nairobi, endured hardship for numerous years due to their lack of identification cards.

President William Ruto has announced that he will ensure all Kenyan citizens receive national ID cards free of charge.

Last week, during his visit to Nairobi's Kibra slum, the president stated that he would eliminate unnecessary red tape and remove prejudices involved in issuing identification documents.
