JSW Energy Signs PPA for 1.6GW Thermal Power Plant

The agreement will last for 25 years.

JSW Energy Limited has signed a power purchasing deal for its 1,600-megawatt (MW) super/ultra-supercritical thermal power project.

In an exchange filing, the firm stated that they had entered into a 25-year agreement with the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited to secure the full capacity.

"This marks the biggest greenfield capacity as well as the most substantial PPA ever secured by JSW Energy. This initiative is expected to substantially increase job prospects locally and foster economic development in the area, all while guaranteeing a consistent and dependable source of electricity for many years ahead," stated Sharad Mahendra, who serves as both the joint managing director and CEO at JSW Energy.

The 1,600 MW initiative planned for construction in Salboni, West Bengal, is set to commence operations within five years. This facility will use domestically linked coal allotted to West Bengal as per the SHAKTI B (iv) policy.
