Thiruvananthapuram ( Kerala [India], March 20 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan On Thursday praised the approval of the Kerala Presented the State Senior Citizens Commission Bill in the state Legislature, referring to it as a "trailblazer in social welfare."
He emphasized that Kerala has become the first Indian state to enact such legislation, setting up a specialized commission for elder care.
" Kerala "Becomes the first state in the nation to enact a law forming an Elderly Commission, safeguarding the rights, well-being, and rehabilitation of seniors," the Chief Minister stated in a post on X.
An innovator in the field of social welfare, # Kerala once again leads the way by empowering its elderly to actively contribute to society--reinforcing its people-centric development model," he added.
On Wednesday, the Kerala Legislative Assembly passed the Kerala The State Senior Citizens Commission Bill, which realizes the LDF government’s mission for elder care and ushers in a new chapter for seniors within the state.
The committee strives to guarantee the well-being, safety, and recovery of people who are 60 years old and older. At the same time, they acknowledge these individuals' capacity to make valuable contributions to society using their experience, creative thoughts, and ability to solve problems.
As worries over negligence, abuse, and desertion among older adults escalate, the commission aims to tackle these issues with urgency. They plan to implement forward-thinking strategies to support the reinstatement of elder individuals, incorporate their expertise within the community at large, and safeguard their entitlements. Moreover, the organization will develop regulatory recommendations concerning policies for enhancing the well-being and security of seniors.
The commission will comprise a Chairperson and a minimum of four members who will be appointed by the government via an official announcement. Both the Chairperson and all members must be older individuals. Among them, at least one should represent either the Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes, and another should be female. (ANI)
