ABUJA — The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Maitama Tuggar, has affirmed that his ministry has enhanced Nigeria's foreign policy by increasing trust in the Nigerian passport, ensuring that no citizen will ever face humiliation overseas again.

Additionally, he mentioned that Nigeria’s Eurobond was met with 300% oversubscription, which signifies robust confidence from international investors.

The minister made these comments on Thursday during the 2025 Ministerial Press conference in Abuja. He also highlighted several accomplishments from the past year, such as assisting with the recovery of $52.8 million by the U.S. government for Nigeria, along with numerous significant economic and diplomatic successes achieved.

Among other accomplishments, the minister signed an MOU for solid mineral exploration, secured a $2 billion investment commitment for the Nigeria-Siemens Power Project, finalized an agreement with Union Bank of Nigeria and Germany’s DWS Group for a memorandum on renewable energy involving $500 million to export liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Germany.

The minister mentioned that his department secured $14 billion in investment pledges from Indian entities spanning various industries. Additionally, enhanced collaboration was established through memorandums of understanding signed between India and Kuwait as their partnership intensified.

In the case of the Netherlands, the ministry supported a €250 million investment aimed at bolstering current businesses in Nigeria. Additionally, they set up a Joint Business Council (JBC) designed to improve trading relationships, attract investments, foster business connections, stimulate economic development, ensure food security, and increase agricultural productivity with Qatar.

As stated by the Minister, because of his diplomatic activities, Russia has extended assistance in terms of equipment and training for Nigerian military personnel to boost both national and regional security. Additionally, a $500 million agreement for the licensing of a gas field has been refined through discussions with Saudi Arabia.

Regarding economic diplomacy, he mentioned that his ministry attracted investment pledges from Indian companies amounting to $14 billion across various industries through their support. Additionally, they have obtained €250 million for Nigerian enterprises from Dutch sources.

Other significant achievements include strategic memorandums of understanding (MOUs) signed with Germany, Saudi Arabia, China, and Equatorial Guinea, as well as France, Cuba, Qatar, the UK, India, and Brazil. These agreements aim at bolstering crucial sectors such as energy, petroleum and natural gas, agriculture, and infrastructure.

The Minister highlighted several key achievements in international relations: enhancing regional power; presiding over crucial ECOWAS meetings; tackling issues related to area safety and governmental stability; securing another term for Ambassador Bankole Adeoye as Nigeria ensured the re-election of one of its diplomats as AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, thereby solidifying its role as a leader in continental defense matters.
