In an effort to revamp the economy for enduring and equitable development, the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa, CCIE, has advocated for a joint initiative between NITDA and the MTN Foundation aimed at enhancing digital skills and strengthening capabilities within Nigeria.
During a courtesy visit by an MTN Foundation delegation, led by Odunayo Sanya, to the agency’s corporate headquarters in Abuja, Inuwa made this statement.
The Director-General highlighted the significance of collaboration in enhancing digital skills and progressing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s initiative for boosting industrialization to establish a vibrant and varied economic environment.
He pointed out that NITDA's program, DL4ALL, is designed to reach 95% digital literacy nationwide by 2027. "This corresponds with the agency's key strategy for promoting digital skills and nurturing talent," he added.
Inuwa also emphasized NITDA’s commitment to establishing a digital literacy framework aligned with UNESCO and DigiCom standards. He mentioned that the agency is working alongside various partners to develop a three-stage educational program tailored for primary, secondary, and tertiary levels, emphasizing skill development rather than just certification.
The MTN Foundation has comparable objectives and presently provides online programs encompassing more than 4,000 courses, with 2,000 Nigerian youth already enrolled.
Mr. Sanya praised NITDA's efforts and extended an invitation for the agency to launch its academy platform on April 17th of this year.
The two organizations have decided to form a committee aimed at effectively attaining their common goals. This collaboration is anticipated to boost digital literacy and skills enhancement in Nigeria, which will support the nation’s broader developmental plans.
