NOAA Weather Radio Station Returns to Air After Fort Smith's Lengthy Outage

On Friday morning, the NOAA Weather Radio stations serving Fort Smith and Tulsa operated by the National Weather Service were offline, as reported by Steve Piltz, who is the lead meteorologist at the Tulsa NWS office.

The gear located in Fort Smith triggers notifications on weather radios across the River Valley region.

Piltz stated that a lightning strike caused the power failure. The technicians then replaced several damaged wires, and service was restored.

The station still requires additional maintenance, but Piltz was hopeful it would remain operational through Friday night's tornado threat .
