
Russia intends to ensure Ukraine’s exclusion from NATO membership as part of its "unwavering" security assurances. peace deal, as per the nation's second-in-command for international affairs.
During an interview released on Monday by the Russian publication Izvestia, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko stated that a lasting peace agreement with Ukraine would have to align with Russia’s requirements.
"We will insist that stringent security assurances be included as part of this pact," Mr Grushko told the outlet.
“Part of these guarantees should be the neutral status of Ukraine, the refusal of Nato countries to accept it into the alliance.”

Steve Witkoff, President Trump’s representative for Middle Eastern affairs, who had an audience with Putin a few days prior, informed CNN on Sunday of his belief that A ceasefire agreement might be achieved within "weeks."
"I believe that these two presidents will engage in a very productive and positive conversation later this week," he stated.
[Mr Trump] genuinely anticipates that there might be some kind of agreement in the upcoming weeks, and I share this belief.
Putin has previously stated that certain criteria need to be fulfilled before he would consent to any agreement.
Both Britain and France have expressed their willingness to deploy a peacekeeping force to oversee a ceasefire. Additionally, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated that his nation would consider such requests positively.
Nevertheless, Moscow firmly opposes the stationing of NATO observers in Ukraine.
Mr. Grushko stated that deploying unarmed observers after a conflict could only be considered once a peace agreement had been reached.
“He simply stated that for now, it amounts to nothing more than hot air.”
Mr Grushko added: “It does not matter under what label Nato contingents were to be deployed on Ukrainian territory: be it the European Union, Nato, or in a national capacity.
If they show up there, it indicates that they are operating within the conflict zone along with all the implications for these forces as participants in the conflict.
The French President, Emmanuel Macron, stated on Sunday that deploying peacekeeping forces to Ukraine was a query for Kyiv to address and not Moscow.
Mr. Grushko stated that Europe's allies of Kyiv must recognize that only by excluding Ukraine from NATO membership and eliminating the prospect of hosting foreign military forces within its borders could stability be achieved in the region.
"Thus, the safety of Ukraine and the wider area will be secured, as one of the main reasons for the dispute will have been removed," he stated.
