A mysterious organization supporting Zimbabwe’s Vice President, known as the General Chiwenga Voluntary Supporters Association (GCVSA), has come forward with startling assertions that mercenaries have been employed to target the ex-army chief.
The allegations arise as factional tensions are escalating within ZANU PF, with the public nature of Chiwenga’s and President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s power disputes becoming increasingly evident.
Christopher Mutsvangwa, the spokesperson for ZANU PF who supports Emmerson Mnangagwa remaining in power past the 2028 constitutional limit, referred to Kudzai Chiwenga as harsh, unwise, and politically unsuitable after a taped conversation was made public recently. In this recording, he characterized Chiwenga as cruel, lacking intelligence, and unlikely to win an election.
Even though Chiwenga called for actions against him, none have been taken yet.
GCVSA told NewZimbabwe.com that they had been alerted about a scheme aimed at more than just killing Chiwenga; it also targeted others planning to join the scheduled protest on March 31st.
"Ntokozo Msipha, the organization’s secretary-general, preemptively and unequivocally revealed the treacherous plan to bring in mercenaries from Sierra Leone, whose sinister task was to eliminate General Chiwenga,” she stated.
Intervention in our domestic matters from abroad is considered an act of warfare! To those implicated, we declare that your identities have been identified, your activities monitored, and rest assured, your treachery against Zimbabwe shall face severe repercussions.
Chiwenga is contesting Mnangagwa's continuation in power past 2028. However, Mnangagwa’s backers, primarily from his home region of Masvingo, are pushing for him to remain until 2030.
War veterans, spearheaded by Blessed Geza, have pledged to organize a demonstration on March 31 to oppose what they describe as rampant cronyism within Mnangagwa's administration.
Added Msipha: "We stand firm in full support of the people's call to action on March 31, 2025. This is not a day of recklessness, but a day of decisive movement by Zimbabweans who refuse to be ruled by fear, deceit, and treachery. The time for tyranny is over, the hour for accountability is now!
The adversary is rattled. We completely understand about the scheduled press conference by the Home Affairs Ministry, which aims to frighten the public through baseless warnings, legal harassment, and raw power. It should be evident: The populace cannot be cowed by rehearsed speeches or superficial displays. Nothing on this planet can halt a resolute people!
For the police and military members, keep in mind that your pledge is to Zimbabwe—not to an illegitimate government. Orders aimed at harming peaceful citizens on March 31 are illegal and will not go unnoticed.
The regime's time is limited, and those believing they can govern via poison, hired forces, and force will swiftly encounter the verdict of the populace!
