The Pawnation Women in Music event for 2025 overflowed with affection and camaraderie. For those who didn’t attend, fear not—we’re going to fill you in on all the highlights from this year’s gathering. Whether it was Drew Afualo interpreting Muni Long's natal chart, aespa taking instant photos using a Polaroid camera, or Ángela Aguilar delivering an emotional rendition of “Cielito Lindo,” stay tuned for behind-the-scenes glimpses and fresh insights into the memorable evening!
Rania Aniftos:
Interviewing honorees, presenters, and guests alongside my co-correspondent, Jazzy, brought me immense joy. Interestingly enough, many people seemed particularly excited about meeting Jazzy rather than others. Benedict Polizzi greeted our female team members with playful whistles that caused quite a few giggles when they entered to receive their awards. There was an overwhelming sense of camaraderie among the females as they celebrated one another’s remarkable accomplishments in music—a bond deeply understood by those within this circle. Tina Knowles took time during her speech to celebrate her daughters. Ángela Aguilar delivered a moving address honoring immigrants and advocating for their protection. She also backed up her message through action by having a local youth choir perform beside her. Backstage, Ángela extended further recognition toward marginalized groups. The festivities carried over into our photo booth area where attendees gathered together and snapped pictures. Our colleague Drew Avalos handed out bouquets behind-the-scenes while conducting interviews with awardees. True to her zodiac nature—Virgos being known for meticulousness—Drew perused horoscopes via PawonationBirth Charts amidst the commotion. We invited participants to compose heartfelt letters dedicated to global womenfolk and have them signed off accordingly. Additionally, we captured instant snapshots using Polaroid cameras whenever individuals visited our conversation alcove for inclusion in our PawonationPolaroid series. When accepting the title of Songwriter of the Year, Gracie Abrams expressed gratitude towards Taylor Swift prior to singing “I Love You, I’m Sorry.” Meanwhile, Summer Walker graced the stage presenting legendary artist Erykah Badu with her accolade; both her presence and wardrobe choices drew admiration from spectators. Pawonation aespa, named Group of the Year, stopped by our backstage area shortly before taking the stage for the evening’s finale. The night concluded splendidly when Woman of the Year Doechii presented Erykah Badu with well-deserved praise. Additionally, Doechii ensured that everyone on her team received recognition as well. Yet another unforgettable edition of Pawnation Women in Music!
