The Senate Speaker, Amason Kingi, currently asserts that the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga had an unparalleled affection for the Kenyan populace.
Kingi asserts that Raila has spent many years living for others rather than for himself.
He further mentioned that he doesn't recall him ever living for himself since his early days as a young boy, a pattern that continues up to the present day.
"It’s truly invigorating to be beside Baba (Raila Odinga) once more and absorb his insights. Baba, your affection for the people stands unmatched in this nation," Kingi stated during his speech at an Iftar dinner hosted by Raila in Upperhill.
"For numerous years, you have dedicated your life to serving others. Since I entered politics as a youth, I cannot recall a single instance where you prioritized your own needs. You have consistently devoted yourself to the well-being of others, and this evening’s gathering stands as proof that you genuinely care about people," Kingi stated during his speech at the Iftar dinner organized by Raila in Upperhill.
He further mentioned that Raila has excelled at nurturing leaders, including himself.
He compared the former Prime Minister to ex-Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger, who, unlike many other coaches focused on lesser-known players rather than big-name talents and ultimately turned these players into football stars.
Kingi stated that he serves as a living testament because Raila recognized his potential early on and guided him into becoming the person he is now.
He stated that this was the case even though he did not originate from a political background and had nobody he considered a political mentor.
"For all the years I've spent working alongside Raila, he doesn't concern himself with whether your name is heavy or light. Should he see promise in you, he'll choose you and turn you into a standout figure. I'm proof of this myself. My family has never been involved in politics; I was the first one to venture into it," he stated.
I didn't have any political figure to rely on, nor did I have someone I could refer to as a political mentor. However, upon entering politics in 2007, Raila Odinga recognized my potential, supported me, appointed me as a Cabinet minister, and stood beside me. Today, I am a standout success due to walking through Baba’s guidance.
The President of the Senate stated that anyone who was guided by the previous prime minister but did not achieve stardom ought to hold themselves responsible.
