Max Out: 'Looney Tunes' Vanish from Streaming Service

That’s all folks.

The original Looney Tunes Animated shorts, which were broadcast during the Golden Age of Animation from 1930 to 1969, have been removed by Warner Bros. Discovery-owned Max.

Pawonation.com confirmed with an official that the initial shorts are no longer available on Max. This change is part of a new strategy where the platform aims to focus more on content for adults and families. Programming intended for children, like Looney Tunes and Sesame Street Before this, it doesn't perform as well and is no longer considered a priority.

Other spinoff versions of Looney Tunes stay with the service, which includes all six seasons from 2020’s Looney Tunes Cartoons , two seasons from the year 2015 New Looney Tunes (The third season and certain episodes from Season 1 are unavailable), two seasons from the 2002 series are Baby Looney Tunes In 2021, the four-part scripted podcast was released. Looney Tunes Presents: Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck's Thanksgiving Adventure two seasons of 2023’s Tiny Toons Looniversity and its corresponding 42-minute Tiny Toons Looniversity: Spring Break unique (although its winter counterpart is not available for streaming), all five seasons of the 1995 series The Adventures of Sylvester and Tweety and two seasons from the year 2022 Bugs Bunny Builders .

This marks a departure from previous maneuvers: In 2023, Max clarified that the classic cartoon was not leaving the platform after an erroneous list of titles being removed in December included the program on it. "Looney Tunes was included in error as a title leaving the platform. This is not the case and the show will continue streaming on Max,” a statement read at the time.

The decision is not a surprising one, as children’s animation has long seen a steady decline. Last year, the parent company shuttered Cartoon Network’s website , just a week after its Boomerang streaming service - which aired mostly classic cartoons from Warner Bros. Animation library - shut down.

The decision to remove Looney Tunes from Max follows the March 14 launch. The Day the Earth Exploded: A Looney Tunes Tale The initial full-length animated film in the series that premiered theatrically received approval primarily for Max. Nonetheless, after Warner Bros. Discovery assumed control, this direct-to-streaming movie did not receive top consideration and was consequently purchased by Ketchup Entertainment during the American Film Market. Additionally, under the leadership of David Zaslav at Warner Bros., this decision was further solidified. Looney Tunes feature film, Coyote vs. Acme. The film was put aside by the present WBD leadership because they found it too expensive to distribute, with the studio writing off the movie’s $70 million production costs.
