Authorities from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control confiscated significant amounts of fake rice during a raid in Port Harcourt, located in Rivers State.
In a statement posted alongside images and videos on X.com on Thursday, NAFDAC revealed this information.
The statement said, "In partnership with Big Bull Rice manufacturers, NAFDAC conducted raids at stores located in Woji, Mile 3, and Mile 1 markets within Port Harcourt, where they exposed extensive selling of fake Big Bull Rice."

A store located along the YKC line in Woji was pinpointed as a distribution center for counterfeit rice.
Upon inspection, authorities found substantial amounts of empty fake Big Bull Rice sacks alongside various other rice brand packaging like Cap Rice, Stallion Rice, Tomato Rice, and Mama Pride.

The statement indicated that a female sales employee, named Ogechi Okafor, was caught at the location.
The recovery included items such as sewing and sealing machines, a generator, a stove, thread, and multiple sacks of repackaged rice from the store.
In the statement, Emmanuel Onogwu, who serves as the NAFDAC coordinator for Rivers State, outlined several characteristics that set apart genuine Big Bull Rice from fake ones. These distinguishing factors encompass a distinctive glossy ribbon around the sealed cap, higher-quality packaging material, and an official emblem.
Onogwu cautioned that repackaged rice usually originates from dubious sources and might have been exposed to dangerous substances to improve its look.
The organization revealed that they confiscated over 120 counterfeit sacks of rice from more than 10 stores and moved them to the NAFDAC Zonal Office for additional inquiry.
