The organic and natural cosmetics market is continually transforming, propelled by shifting consumer tastes, heightened consciousness about environmental advantages, entrepreneurial ventures, innovative developments, and advancements in technology. From February 11 to 14, 2025, the yearly leading international trade show for organic goods, natural and organic personal care items—BIOFACH—took place in Germany at the Nuremberg Convention Center. This gathering attracted numerous enterprises focused on advancing wellness, sustainability, and ecological accountability. Over 35,000 attendees from 140 nations joined forces with approximately 2,300 exhibitors hailing from 94 different countries.
Reflecting this expansion, exhibiting firms covered various industries like organic food manufacturers, natural skin-care lines, and pioneers in environmentally friendly packaging solutions. Participating organizations from Rwanda included Es Soil, Abakunda Kawa Rushashi, Dukunde Kawa Musasa, Ikirezi Ltd., Horizon Sopyrwa, and AgroPy Ltd. Their showcased offerings ranged from essential oils and organic coffee to pest-control products using eco-friendly methods, alongside contributions related to livestock well-being and community health improvements.
This exhibition marked significant progress, highlighting rising customer interest in organically sourced commodities. According to "The World of Organic Agriculture" Yearbook's 26th issue co-published by FiBL and IFOAM —Organic International—the worldwide expanse of certified organic farmland expanded by roughly 2.5 million hectares in 2023, totaling close to 99 million hectares—a rise of around 2.6% over previous figures. South American territories witnessed the most substantial boost (+1 million hectares), whereas Australasia maintained dominance as having the highest acreage devoted to organic cultivation (over 53.2 million hectares). They were closely trailed by European regions (about 19.5 million hectares) and again Southern Americas (around 10.3 million hectares).
Sales volumes for these agricultural outputs hit just under €136 billion during 2023. At BIOFACH, Rwandan businesses had their inaugural presence via a national pavilion, providing them a platform to present premium local organic/natural produce globally, forge connections, exchange expertise, and seek fresh commercial partnerships. Attendees could interact face-to-face with prospective clients besides presenting their merchandise; educational seminars and moderated panels complemented the expo experience, offering insight into cutting-edge techniques fostering sustainable agronomy practices.
For ROAM (Rwanda Organic Agricultural Movement)—the unifying body overseeing participants within Rwanda's organic sphere—we found immense satisfaction collaborating among peers here. Our dedication persists stronger now than before toward sustaining organic agribusinesses, recognizing they enhance item caliber whilst safeguarding Earth simultaneously. Gratitude extends particularly to governmental bodies represented through NAEB (National Agricultural Export Development Board), diplomatic missions stationed abroad specifically those situated in Berlin, all contributing parties involved locally/abroad facilitating Rwanda's successful involvement last month.
As preparations begin anew ahead of subsequent editions scheduled annually beginning Feb 10-13, 2026, let us uphold principles emphasizing conservation, wellbeing, inventive spirit collectively shaping enduring ecosystems benefiting posterity universally. Let your actions today contribute positively tomorrow!
