President Bola Tinubu has named Dr. Obayomi Gregory as the founding Registrar of the recently created Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences located in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The appointment of Dr. Gregory represents an important landmark in the university’s growth since its founding in 2023. Serving as the inaugural Registrar, his role will involve establishing the institution’s administrative systems, crafting policies, and developing governance structures.
Dr. Gregory, holding a PhD in Political Science from Nile University in Abuja, boasts extensive knowledge in international relations, peace and conflict studies, as well as journalism. His profound understanding spans across areas such as governance, institutional strategy, public relations, and conflict resolution.
His wide-ranging career encompasses roles in academia, security, and public service. He acted as the Deputy Registrar at the National Mathematical Centre in Abuja and formerly held the position of Senior Security Officer within the Nigerian State Security Service (SSS).
Furthermore, he has made substantial contributions to academic publishing and media by acting as the Editor-in-Chief of The Mathematician Magazine and maintaining membership in various professional associations.
As the university’s Registrar, Dr. Gregory is expected to lay a solid foundation for a world-class institution focused on advancing medical education and research in Nigeria. His leadership is anticipated to drive the university toward excellence and contribute to the federal government’s broader vision of strengthening the country’s medical education sector.
