Deadline reports that Emmy-winning actor Matthew Macfayden, renowned for his standout performance as Tom Wambsgans, Succession, is scheduled to play the role of the legendary George Smiley in the forthcoming TV series Legacy of Spies. Adapted from John le Carré’s iconic spy novels, the series aims to delve into the illustrious career of this renowned intelligence operative.
The production of the show is managed by The Ink Factory, which possesses the rights to le Carré’s creations, while Fifth Season will be responsible for distributing it. Initial feedback suggests that the series has sparked considerable interest among potential purchasers in the U.S. as well as the UK.
The adaptation will encompass multiple novels by le Carré, such as The Agent Who Returned From The Cold , Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy , and The Honorable Schoolboy as well as some new material not previously released.
The series is currently under development, featuring several scripts penned by Stephen Cornwell and Clarissa Ingram. Silo executive producer Graham Yost overseeing the project.
